Cooland leak near carb / rear of block

Hi folks,
On the way to work this am I noticed a little steam coming up from around the hood.
Had a look when I got to work, the steam is coming from behind the carb, back of the engine area. When stopped, maybe a 1/2 L of coolant leaked out of somewhere, also sprayed enough to wet the wires and etc running on the firewall.
Still dark, and my flashlight is of course not in the truck.
I'm just looking for a few WAGs at what's leaking and things to check before I try to drive it home (15mins).
I just changed the oil and did not notice any signs of water in it.
Compression test was ok, but that was a few months ago now.
I'm not terribly good with mechanics beyond the basics, this vehicle is probably a little too old for me....
Of course I'm hoping it's not the head gasket... rad, water pump, hoses, most of the cooling system is relatively new!
I've been lurking these forums for a while, lots of great info here.
My high school sweetheart had an 87 Raider, I got a little attached. I got over the girl long ago, but I'm having trouble letting my Montero go...
