Make sure you keep your tuneups regular and your oil changed for all that commuting. These things will run forever with proper care and feeding.

Drive a reasonable speed to optimize your gas mileage. If my carbed 22R is happy, I get about 26 mpg. My Runner with the 2.7L engine has its mileage sweet spot at 25 mpg at 57 mph. That's loaded with campin' gear.
