Looking to see if anyone is interested in an Anza Borrego trip the weekend after New Years. (3 and 4 or 3 or 4 Jan). I'm open and flexible for either a day trip or a two day camp trip, depending on who's available during what times.
As far as trail lineup I'm looking at the main trip being:
Pinyon Mountain, with a right turn in fish creek and looping back UP via Diablo Drop off and back out to S-2 via Canyon Sin Nombre.
If a day two happens we can look at doing calcite mine among others.
Equipment requirements:
I've had an open Montero with 33's through Pinyon before and it only reqired the strap once when climing some loose moguls but an LSD in the rear will be a big help especially if we are climbing up Diablo Drop Off. So I would say at least one traction aid and 31's minimum to keep it moving. We will be going through "The Squeeze" which I've had my SR through a few times with no problem, but realize that body damage is a possibility here, but with spotting is unlikely. Also the Pinyon Mountain trail takes you down whats known as Heart Attack Hill, just so there's no surprises, once you go through the squeeze theres no turning back. You must descend Heart attack to get down the Mountain. Anyways, I hope I didnt scare you off In my opinion this is one of the best trails in the lower portion of So Cal in both scenery and Challenge, read the wells guide if you have it. I think he agrees.
