After cleaning and painting some parts, it's time to deal with the lower intake...... it's a mess:
The water by-pass pipe and front tube will have to be replaced, but I don't yet know where to get the front tube - it's not listed in the parts manual - should be able to get something at NAPA, though.
The head flanges are really a mess - even after a short session with a 12" flat file they're slightly bow-warped in the center and pitted torward the ends.

I didn't want to file too much for fear of (as Eddy says) going wrong with confidence. Instead, I'll have the machine shop mill a couple of thousandths off of each side.
Oh yeah... VHT Cast Aluminum paint is no longer available anywhere in town, so I had to order it from Summit.... just when you get used to something you like, the stores replace it with junk that doesn't work as well.
