I would have done that, but I had already installed the gasket with RTV on both sides and saw no need to waste a good gasket. The holes in the front half are large enough to pass a #7 machine screw without drilling, so it was easy to overtap the rear plate without taking it back apart. That's the first half-pump I've used - seems fine if the rear pipe hole is ok... except for the wimpy #6 threads.
