I wasn't happy with the intake ports on the Caravan heads, so I did a light port job and took them to the machine shop for rebuilding - took .002" on one pass from each and they're fine - must have been over thickness originally because they're still OE spec at 3.310"... in combination with the .0045" deck cut, everything's within spec. Valve guides and springs are fine. Polished the journals on the Montero cams and swapped over the cams and one exhaust valve from the Montero heads... valve job done... seals, freeze plugs and new OE valve lifters were installed:

Ran in new FelPro head bolts - this block is drilled/tapped soooo much better than mine.... thickest clamping limit is 2.860"... tons of extra depth.
New washers came with the Fel-Pro bolts and they're a little thicker than OE... about .002" - another good thing... installed the heads.
I'd left instructions to supply the best water pump available from NAPA - what I got was a new front half. I figured... "no big deal - just R&R the old rear half." First the inside of the old one.... yikes! :
Then, after cleaning everything and assembling the two halves, found the last set of threads in the rear half stripped. I didn't want to throw away the new front half and buy a complete new pump, so I over-tapped the #6-1.0 to a #7-1.0. I don't normally like to do such, but it's not something that will likely ever be disassembled again and it doesn't show once the engine is installed.
Installed the water pump, new engine mounts, transmission stays and the oil filter housing:

Cleaned the water pipe for painting and found what appears to be a split end that has been repaired by something that looks suspiciously like JB Weld:
A new water pipe will be ordered tomorrow.
