It's red!

After several hours of thread tapping , all of the bolts run in fine. The heads haven't yet been surfaced, but it appears there's plenty of head thickness for clamping range without even grinding the bolts - .008" minimum extra range is the lowest reading after calculating from the tallest bolt.

I don't plan to take more than .003" off the heads (hopefully), so this block seems to be tapped deeper than my '89 - since this is a later engine, maybe there was a correction in factory machining? I'll grind a little on the bolts to make sure, though.
Time to go wash the block.... again.
