Still pokin' 'round..... since the block is clean (including the deck holes), I ran a couple of new head bolts into the deck holes to see what condition the threads were in before cleaning with a tap. The photos below will demonstrate the value of using a bottoming tap... and cleaning all the way to the bottom. I used the old head bolts so the picture would show bolts in all holes in one comparative picture per side... ran them as far as I could with heavy finger pressure.... results are the same as when the new bolts were first used: Passenger Side, 1-3-5 R-L
 Driver Side, 2/4/6 R-L
 Remember from the earlier photos where the head gaskets breached..... between #3 & #5 on the passenger side and between #4 & #6 on the driver side - right where the bolts are binding.
If these threads aren't properly cleaned to sufficient depth, the torque reading on the bolts that didn't run in all the way without drag will be completely useless.
