Back from the machine shop with the block and crankshaft. The crankshaft was polished and should run .002-.003" clearance - I'll know when I install it in the block for clearance checking.
The cylinders were bored/honed .020". After clean-up, I went over to pick it up and looked at the deck... discovered another problem with etching - particularly in the area between the fire rings where the gasket breached between #3 & #5.... possibly caused by running the head lifted - water and ethyl glycol etching as a result. It can be an issue with any engine, but maybe this is another area of concern that should be on the list for 3.0L owners when doing a rebuild. Anyway, I had the shop mill both decks.... one pass per side took off .0045" and cost $90, but might be the best $90 ever spent on this engine:
The service limit on milling is .008" deck + head combined, so after the heads are checked/surfaced I'll know if it'll need a head shim.
Maybe this weekend I'll be able to wash and paint the block so I can start the fun of chasing threads.
