Should my 9500 lb winch have pulled me out

I just got a chance to use my 9500lb MileMarker in a situation. I was in snow and was high centered up to my bumper in snow. I was thinking my winch should have slid me through it but it did not budge it. We had a direct line winch anchor(Tree). I then tried to double line it to increase pulling power and it budged about six inches. We finally got it out by strapping high up about 12 feet on a big tree that was off to the right. I was hesitant to do this at first because the tree was not in direct line but off to the side. Needless to say the winch pulled me out by pulling me up and to the right. Am I expecting too much from a 9500lb winch or is this just a Mile Marker thing? Would a 9500lb Warn have done it? Thanks!
