I browsed over the last few pages and have a couple of questions/suggestions.

First- did you ever check out the Yotatech thread of the guy trying to mate the 3vz-fe DOHC heads to the 3vz-e? It still seems plausible although he never completed the job. "Supposedly" the 3.4 intake bolts onto the heads. Custom headers would probably need to be made, but they're probably cheaper to have done than a new intake. It's a thought I've always been interested in and hate that the guy never finished the project or at least came to a "it won't work" conclusion.

Perhaps a whole 3vzfe could be used dependant upon the bellhousing...yes I'm aware it's a horizontally opposed engine, but it's still very much in the 3vze family. Same bore, stroke and compression ratio IIRC.

I don't know what your funding is or if you're even interested, but you may want to see if you can get a hold of one of these engines to ponder over as well as an intake. The harder part of the mod would be finding the correct timing belt to match, but there's no guarantee that the stock one won't fit...it's a dark winding road

Also, what do you think the 3vze can be bored over to? I know engnbldr sells .040 over kits, but I've seen 50 and even 75's available.

Hey, I know! Buy DOA's 8000 engine and I'll go pick it up and take it apart to see just what's done to it.

I'm behind you all the way with this idea, as I think there IS more performance to be had out of this engine, and aside from the whole HG ordeal they're really a stout engine that likes to see higher RPM's.

I have no idea if and/or when my HG recall was done, but I have 250k miles on my engine (400000km) and I still rev it quite a bit. In fact I almost redlined it the other day just to see if it had a rev limiter

On a side note, most people don't realize that any gas engine NEEDS to see high RPM's once every month or so to keep the combustion chamber clear of carbon.

Not to mention I personally like using higher rpm's on the trail (ie. 4k in 1st instead of upshifting)

Isuzu 3.2 and 3.5's are notorious for having oil blow-by past the rings due to carbon build-up. I asked my service manager (I was working @ an Isuzu dealership) why he thought my Amigo never had that problem and he told me it's because I drive it "spiritedly" and keep the engine "clean".
Oh yeah, and the 98+ V6 Isuzu engines DO have the variable intake manifold. You may want to check it out just to get ideas.
As much as I love my Yota, I'd give anything to have my Amigo back....3500lbs w/ 205hp and 220ft/lbs. of torque before modifications. 0-60 in under 8 seconds..not bad for any vehicle, much less an SUV
