I like your idea of sticking with the stock manifolds and getting rid of the stock cross over. Where are you planning to Y the exaust together (take pics)? I spent some time under my truck today pondering the possibilities and some more time looking at pics online tonight.

From my time under the truck it looked like one could (with a 1"-2" body lift) modify the stock crossover so its output angles down (at drivers side of motor), cap off the current drivers side manifold output port and use the former cross over input as the output. A small Y could then be constructed to hook the two sides together. This would have the advantage of keeping all exaust bits up out of harms way and get rid of the exaust backflow of the stock system.

The header installs I saw online did the Y in one of two places:

1) Immediatly after the headers collector with the Y tube passing under the front drive shaft. This kept things fairly compact but the crossover was relitivly low.

2) Behind the transfer case. This had the advantage of not crossing under the front driveshaft but the downside is the passage on the right side of the transmission/transfer case is very narrow and filled with gas and brake lines. None of the pics I saw had any kind of heat shielding added. I would be worried about overheating transmission/t-case oils as well as the gas and brake lines.

As for available 3.0 headers. AFAIK only Downey and NWOR offer them, Doug Thorley keeps saying that they are in the works (for two years now). Personally I won't do business with NWOR (both this forums feedback and their additude evident from their website, i.e. we rock, everybody else sucks), which only leaves Downey. Are there any others?
