Jack for lift. Ratchet straps or chain for stability. I got the tail up on the crossmember, stacked up 2x10 blocks for a "step", and slid it forward to mate.
The bolt trick is even better on an m/t...
Or, bolt a rectangle of 3/4" plywood to the hole where the jack cradle goes, with 2 or 4 eyebolts at the edge, strap the tranny to the plywood, and up she goes. I'd even measure the angle of the engine, and shim the tranny to match, and you could drive the tranny/jack right onto the bellhousing with guide studs, with only some slight jack wheelie as you sock it home, and only then if the engine has a back dangle...
