Thanks for the vote of cofidence, Matt - I hope it's deserved....
I got a second and third opinion today on the issue Kevin raised about the sun gear/direct clutch flush engagement - mixed opinions again..... I've decided to take one more run at it - even though it requires backing up again. Everything points to the plastic thrust washer in the output planetary gear set... I checked the overhaul kit and there's another plastic thrust washer that looks like it might work - so I'll take it back down and try it again tomorrow.
When I visited the second shop today - after talking to one tech who wanted a second opinion from a co-worker to my question, the second tech came over - first tech said "Frank's building an Aisin Warner transmission"... before he could get any further, the second tech said... "I'm sorry"
I'm getting the impression that this might be the worst monster in the transmission realm.
