Thanks, Matt - that's what I did - at some point I have to trust my work and not the incorrect manual for this transmission - although I was told it was the same as the other A40 series.
The bellhousing is back on and torqued down with thread sealant to protect against salt penetration into the through-threaded holes - the oil pump is installed with sealant under the bolt heads only. The clutches and brakes have been tested with low pressure air (40 psi) - all appear to be working fine and I can hear movement at every location with every shot of air:
The input shaft turns freely (well, with some effort) and has .018" end play:
The output shaft has .022" end play:
Axial Play Spec = .012-.035"
As built:
Input shaft = .018"
Output shaft = .022"
