We grow so soon old and so late smart... After going through everything again, the results are the same. See if this makes any sense:
I measured the depth from the front of the overdrive case (mates to oil pump) to the bearing race installed at the bottom of the overdrive clutch case hub recess - it is ~.918":
I measured the protrusion of the oil pump hub from the rear face (mates to overdrive case) to the bearing roller surface - it is ~ .887":
So, I already have ~.031" clearance between the oil pump and the front clutch - can't see what adding another .050" as suggested by ATSG is going to help. Realizing those dimensions were a little questionable with the measuring methods I'm using, I decided to test it without the bellhousing in the way to see how it fit.... BAM! - it went home as slick as you please - probably should have done that in the beginning, eh? Here's the fit:
So, if you guys are in agreement that it's ok, all I can say is it was a helluva lot of work to prove the manual wrong... again.... but I suppose it's better to prove it than assume it. What's your opinion? Good to go?
