I think you're right... or close to it. I've thought about where it could be and think it's either the last planetary set or the front clutch hub - both are funky installs. I distinctly remember the planetary set sounded like it went home, but the front clutch hub rocked on the bearing after several installation attempts.... it just didn't seem like it was fully seated, but after about 5 attempts at wiggling and spinning I didn't see any misalignment of any teeth and thought surely it had engaged all - I thought maybe that was just how it was.... probably not, though. I'll recheck tomorrow.... there's a pony in there somewhere. 
518 or Permatex teflon paste sealant - ok, I can find those locally - thanks. I used a little blue threadlocker on the small oil pump case bolts for good measure, but you don't have to worry about those leaking - just don't want the installation bolts to leak - what the heck is that 3M ART 8660, anyway - MMC manuals are full of that number - is it discontinued?
