Fords are junk! Ooohh how did that slip out...?
Ford 9s are great for some applications, not many where short wheelbase is involved. EBs are have a 25" rear shaft tjs have 18"-19" big difference. Yj same same.

High pinion 9s and all the money assosiated with them are a great set up and very bulletproof. In el-cheapo boneyard condition however...a 9 has a fairly offset pinion (5-6") and is 65-67" wide and in an EB banjo format only 57" wide. EB9 is useless! except for the dropout?. 67" wide 9s need narrowing (most of the time). and when centered make a pretty nice set up coming in around 61" wms.
44s are simply more readily bolted straight in and are just as strong as a any stock 31 spline 9" is what I was trying to say.
