I've come to the same conclusion after seeing the old ones - the ones I've measured have been mostly dead on spec. Apparently they hook up very quickly.
I can see why you would increase line pressure to compensate for a loose clearance, but does it slam when it shifts - or does the increasing spring pressure/distance soften the collision? Did you increase line pressure through necessity after setting it up loose?
