I don't think there was an OE option if that's what you mean - I think it's just that Dayco makes the converter in both options - and perhaps it is the same as a 340E and that's where the option comes from.... dunno. I do know that the counter guy said that the '91 AW372L converter that I left with him for a core is the TO32LS (LS = low stall designation) that Dayco sells.
I'm not so concerned about heat production on the highway - as you say, the lockup feature takes care of that.... more wrt low-speed/traffic operation and maybe in 4WD lo-range.
If anyone has a '91 FSM and can look in the A/T section and find the stall speed test specs, I'd appreciate it - that way it'll at least provide verification of what's apples and what's oranges.
