I hadn't paid attention to that yet, but yes - the lower half has a thinner o-ring than the upper half, but it should be obvious because the groove widths are correspondingly different.... I won't dissasemble any of the assemblies until I'm ready to install them - then open one at a time and clean, measure, clean, measure, replace, measure, clean, measure, install, measure, measure. 
I can't wait to start putting this thing back together so I can see what's in those assemblies. So far they look like a giant big game fishing reel - something I've built for years - frictions, steels, springs and multi-speed gears with shifters.... just never have seen the inside of a hydraulic fishing reel - but they are used in commercial fishing and in net boats on the winches.
