If it starts wouldn't the distributor have working components? Perhaps something awry in closed loop? I am not as adept as some on the I-Tec system but unless there is some single factor overide in open loop for precise spark it may not dizy only. The values Jeff (Troopersphere) depicted in his last post are probably as precise as it gets, but if you're using a slower (aka cheaper) meter you may not visualise pulses. However, even a cheap 1MHz scope would show you a picture of even Hall effect in real time. Granted, no crank angle signal will shut er down, as will no alternator or no oil pressure. Wish it was here, always liked the odd ones.

There are two sigs outta our diz's ... one is simply the crank position, which is used when starting, the other is the engine speed signal, which is IGNORED when starting... so my theory is that the crank position sensor is working, but the speed sensor is not... so when you release the key, the ECM starts looking for the speed signal, doesn't see it, and shuts down the injectors.

Those sensors aren't HALL EFFECT... they are very simple LED and PHOTO-TRANSISTOR jobs. If you look at the signal with a meter, and slowly turn the engine with a wrench, you will see the sig go low-high-low-high, etc ... it's just a switch turning on and off, on and off... a scope would let you visualize the signal when the engine was running though, a LOT better than any meter would.
