You can get to the distributor inputs to the ECM pretty easily. Here's a couple pics that might help. You don't need a digital voltmeter for this, an analog works just as well.

With the key "on", engine not running, back-probe the connector at the white and green wires and have a helper slowly turn the engine with a breaker bar and socket on the crank pulley bolt. You should see the voltage on each wire alternate between "low" and "high". One will do this 4 times for every rotation of the diz, the other will do this 360 times per rotation. (remember that ONE rotation of the diz is TWO rotations of the crankshaft) I'm sorry that I don't remember which wire is the 4 pulse, and which is the 360 pulse, but it will be pretty obvious once you rotate the engine.

You _can_ test these with the engine running: The voltage on either wire in this case will (should) be somewhere BETWEEN the two extremes. You will be measuring an ALTERNATING voltage (square wave) with a DC meter, and the meter will "average" the display. This method works better with an ANALOG meter. This is where an oscilloscope comes into it's own, as you can see the actual signals from the position sensors in the diz.
