Report from the field...

Over the weekend, I rented a 5x8 U-Haul trailer and filled it 2/3rds of the way with furninture and junk from my apartment in Quincy. The back of the Raider was also jam-packed with stuff. Made the 260mi journey from Quincy to DeKalb without incident. I even put it in 4th gear for the last 60mi of the trip or so to see if the light would come on - nothing.

Granted I made most of the journey in 3rd gear at ~60mph and the A/T has never popped the light in 3rd, it still had no trouble pulling the trailer. I still have to road test it in 4th gear back to Quincy in a few days to confirm the fix, but it appears solid enough to me. Probably wouldn't hurt to flush out the fluid one more time and replace the filter again. It's overheated at least 6x since the last change.

I imagine that the grille to the A/T cooler was damaged some time ago and it wasn't until I added the extra drag from the subsequent body lifts that the problem started to become noticable. I think that cutting out the front really improves airflow over the cooler as well.

Hopefully this does the trick.
