Hey, Sunder. Read the posts above. I conceded that point. Really, I wasn't that serious about the whole issue; the real issue is seeking out an experienced mechanic you can trust to do business. Sorry if I stepped on any toes, but... hey, we make fun of PHD's, too! Lighten-up!
Sunder, if every ASE master mechanic (I got that from Josh's post above, I didn't even know that the ASE certification was for a master mechanic!) was somebody like you, I guess I would have a higher opinion about the value of this certification. But, SuperDawg put it all in perspective for me; apparently, this certification is like a learner's permit?
