Good grief!!! No wonder everybody thinks mechanics are dishonest.


I can't imagine that happening at my shop. In fact, we do a lot of goodwill warranty work that I feel should have been customer pay. Bad for the tech (me), good for the customer.

With those kinds of reputations (Modesto Mitsu had a similar sales record, not sure about service), it's no wonder MMC isn't interested in US sales anymore.

Kalifornia has a division of the Department of Consumer Affairs called the Bureau of Automotive Repair. They crawl right up the of any shop accused of ripping off a consumer. And they have arrest and detainment powers just like uniformed cops. They literally can (and have) arrested shop owners, service writers, service managers and techs. That kind of thing hasn't happened often, usually they just fine the out of you.

It makes me and to hear about shops like those described here. Especially about the warranty threats.
