For the speedo on a 91/90 the ECU uses it to calculate when to shift up/down the auto tranny if you have one. Mine has a slight binding that causes the error code(24) to set for (24)"No voltage of the vehicle speed sensor signal". What I think this means is that any binding will cause the signal to drop out and may cause late/hard shifting of the auto tranny. I lubed the cable but this did not help. It is my last error code, but does not seem to have to much effect other than an occasional hard shift or a late shift point. The top end is easy to pull on a 91, but I did not pull the lower end.

Shift points on the GenI A/T are controlled by the throttle control cable... or something. The reed switch has nothing to do with it.
