Well if it will mate to the 22r then it will mate to the M series block (theoreticly). So if yo are wanting to do the swap in stages you could either start with M series motor, source the b-housing then the tranny, tcase etc. Or you could mate the R tranny to your 22r (would there be any gearing issues there?) wait till you get your desired 3.4 and then do that swap. Either way it will not be cheep. Your probably looking at spending more then the value of the truck on the powertrain when swapping in 3.4 to a previously 22r powered truck.

For me the issue is cost and the cost of a 22rte bellhousing is probably about the same as a w56 with tcase. Course is I was 10 years older and in my career I probably wouldn't care.
