2.6L Cooling System; Remove inline block heater, all new hoses
      07/16/12 10:53 PM

So, I'm going through the truck, preparing for a trip of several hundred miles in a Raider with 340K miles. I've received so much help already, ironing out so many little and big issues too, I feel bad asking for more advice, but I truly need it. I'm not one to just replace stuff without going into it with a head full of knowledge, and I am trying to de-mystify my truck. I am trying to understand the cooling system.

At some point, an inline block heater was added. It looks like there is a tee added at the coolant sensor housing, and some other stuff I don't know about. Not knowing what a Raider looks like without it, I don't know how to *delete* it properly. The FSM isn't much help.

The end effect is that I'd like to delete the inline block heater and replace every bit of heater hose on the truck. While I'm at it I'm going to replace both radiator hoses, too.

Rather than try to explain every little bit, I took a short video. Its here:

EDIT: After reviewing the video again, it looks like the T at the coolant sensor housing could be deleted, and the cut and spliced heater hose be re-joined together, since it was probably just cut into to add the block heater hoses as an extension. Does that sound right? I still don't know where all the rest go.

I genuinely appreciate the knowledge I've been given thus far, and the willingness to help a guy keep this old but awesome beast on the road. Thanks again, and again!
