Different powertrain for a 89 montero?
      07/09/12 12:27 PM

My faithful 89 Montero is getting old. It has about 250K on it. Original Transmission. Put in a used engine mainly because a shop screwed up a valve job. I would like keep this truck forever. However I am more and more trouble finding parts that are going bad. I expect this problem to get worse as time goes on. I've had to get junk yard parts for the last couple of things. I thought of a solution if it is possible.

Is there a newer powertrain that will fit into the 89 montero? I'm not talking about building something that requires a whole bunch of fabricating, but something that will fit. Like is there a more recent 3.0 engine but with electronics that are still being made.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks!
