That looks like a 89 to 91 model Evinrude XP 150. If the Motor Cover is the original. That XP model was the top end motor of the time. Supposedly had more HP than the regular 150 model. It cost quite a bit more than the regular 150 as well. Never saw one of those except in the show room. OMC made some pretty good outboard motors back then. If it was not abused you should get a few more hours out of it. Good luck with it.
As far as towing the bigger the towing vehicle the better is the general rule. Stops better handles better etc.
