If you have some wood working equipment (drill press & band or scroll saw (w/ table)) then you can probably make a decent spacer out of aluminum assuming the mating surfaces are straight/even. Nice thing about aluminum is its soft enough that can easily be cut/milled using woodworking tools.
It is recommended you lubricate the aluminum as you cut it though.
