So I right away (Friday Sunday night) plan to: Oil/filter & air filter- Y Drain the radiator and flush it out- consider having it rodded out Top off brake & clutch fluids- Y Grease any zerk I can reach- Y Change Plugs? Wires? maybe if it doesn't miss, maybe not yet Pull wheels off and inspect brakes/rotors, shake check bearing play.- check for sticky caliper pins - lower bolt and upper fixed pin - regrease Change Diff. fluid as time allows, maybe a next weekend project- Y Next I want to: Inspect/assess the front end bushings/boots for signs of wear. Locate a bouncy seat frame to replace my current frame (I assume I use my current seat, just replace the frame?) Replace/repair front & rear windshield washer systems and rear wiper motor. Install Radio? (Road noise dampening system) I will need to track down wiring diagram; the bunch of spaghetti down there is pretty ominous. Crank bolt? What does this job entail?- remove fan shroud, remove old bolt (I rest a long breaker bar on frame rail and bump starter, then I tighten new one with a 4lb hammer and breaker bar, or you can use a blocking bar on flywheel teeth, but I've never had one come loose) and install upgraded bolt - factory only part. Replacing Idler arm and pitman arm Any brand preference on the suggested parts sites?- never seen a bad pitmann arm - idlers go bad early and often, especially with large tires. Used to have an idler bushing kit, but haven't seen one in years. Any Bushing replacement Again brand preference?- mitsu Shock replacement Brand preference? Should I replace/upgrade the rear spings?- KYB, only do springs if you want some lift - others have used air bags or spring spacers Keeping an eye on Craigs list for tires/wheels. Order roof clamps & install previous jeeps safari rack Order & Install manual locking hubs from Tuffpans.com Beg wife for inexpensive welder to build some bumpers & bull bars.
For the radio stuff, my son (willwinchforfood) has a cad machine to cut new aluminum radio panels to spec, and pretty cheap, too.
You need at least a 220v welder to do a good job if you mig or stick. Try renting one, or used from craigslist - there's a utility site (searchtempest.com) that searches multiple CL cities at one time - enter a miles radius from your zip code.
