I've not had real issues with starter removal from the 2.6 engines. I use a flexible head Husky ratchet combination wrench with either a backup wrench, or gentle pursuation with said wrench, a 2' long screwdriver/metal rod and 20 oz dead-blow mallet. The latter method takes some patients and coordination.
