some thoughts on spelling and grammar for those who can't
      03/31/12 08:33 PM

A real smart guy whose name I can't remember said something on the order of "You are what you say".

I realize that the public ed system is so bad you may have never really been taught how to spell or use accepted grammar. Tough.

If you can't spell, and can't use grammar, people are going to assume you are stupid, not just ignorant (you can't fix stupid - ignorance can be cured with some work). Is this fair? No, the world is not fair. Unless you wan't to go through life with a stupid tag hung around your neck, go to work and fix it. I realize there are such things as dyslexia. There are work-arounds. I know several people who suffer from it. It's a bear, but you can find ways to cope, and you have to do it for yourself.

I intend no personal criticism, and I name no names. I just want to see you succeed to the extent of your talents, and you CAN NOT unless you fix this, or find a line of endeavor where it does not matter, and even then you will labor under a heavy handicap. It does not matter how bright you are - people will never see the level of your intelligence.

If I can help you, call on me. My best advice is to read, and read, and read. Most good writing is correctly spelled and grammatical, and it will soak in if you let it, and the only real way to raise your i.q. is to read and read and read. Not to mention that there are some damn good stories out there, much better than expensive movies or crap television, and you will learn more than you can imagine just by reading. I read at least a book every two days. Library cards are free, most places.
