The v6 trannys changed I believe in 94. You need to find a montero between 89 and 93 for the km148. I have ran my km148 with the 3.5 and haven't had a problem. If you are only in need of a v6 bell housing, I'm sure I can scrounge one up for you. I'm trying to remember now, is this a gen 1 4cyl truck your swapping the 3.5 into? Also, If you have any spare funds and you have a non lock up tranny, you may want to consider getting a lock up tranny. I'm gonna do this eventually.
yes, it is a 4 cylinder truck that I'm swapping it into. Why? I have the frame mounts out, what a PITA with a sawzall, grinder and cutting discs. Dang I need a torch. Dude, If I could find a lock-up transmission I would. I swear when I was scrounging before this V-6 came along, there was a bunch of auto's in the yards, thanks to the cash-for-clunkers debacle. Now I can get my hands on (5) five manual transmission trucks. Did you ever find the fuel pump part number?
Airtex E8002 fuel pump
Since your truck is a 4cyl your gonna need a gen 1 3.0 auto flex plate. (do not use a 24 valve 3.0 flexplate, it wont work). I'm pretty sure the starters are the same between the gen 2 3.5 and the gen 1 3.0.
When you cut the frame mounts, did you preserve them to a point for them to be re-used? And yes, cutting them off is a PITA. We also used grinders with cutting discs but I have a 3in body lift so it may have made it a little easier. Also, I'm pretty sure I have a bell housing here that I could send your way if you can't get your hands on one out there. Also make sure you modify the engine plate on the back of the motor before you put it in the truck. The engine plate on the 3.5 has the pitch of the starter different than the 3.0, this is why I mentioned getting a different flexplate. The 3.0 bell housing will interfere with the 3.5 engine plate so you will have to cut it for the starter to fit on and bolt up.
I'm gonna follow this post carefully and see what I can help you with along the way, since I was too lazy to type up a write up.
I haven't taken the SR frame mounts out yet. Waiting on the bellhousing before I take the SR motor out of the truck. Why?
