Figured it was time to update this thread a bit. I've been updating my thread in the AZ sub forum, but may need some more eyes on this one. For those who want to catch up click HERE.

Quick rundown:

Crank sensor blade was my starting issue, but turns out there are many more issues with this engine. Here are some pics after my 2nd day of the engine teardown:


If you look at the AZ crew thread in the link, the damaged cam lobe and rocker would be this valve on the driver side head. It appears there is no valve damage, which is good. But wait, there's more...





After getting the head off I find the valves have contacted the pistons on all three driver side pistons. With no valve damage, my guess is the "mechanic" that sold it to me just slapped a new head on after previous damage thinking it would be ok.





I'm guessing this is where the failed butterfly ended up.



I would have gotten the other head off tonight to see if it was the same, but I stripped out one of the head bolts. Anyone got a tip for getting a stripped head bolt out? I'm all ears.

Looks like I will be trying to find a JY short block, and get the heads checked out at a machine shop. Hopefully I can piece a working engine together at some point.
