Been toying around with the electrics looking for a fault and have an interesting observation. Maybe someone has seen this before, or maybe this is normal operation. I don't know.

I bought a remote start switch so I can turn the engine over myself without being in the truck. I hooked up to the battery + terminal, and to the small spade port on the starter solenoid with the remote switch. Engine cranks over OK when doing this. Not great, just ok but there is no pause like when using the key to crank the engine. Turn the key on and hear the fuel pump turn on and hear injector noise at the engine. Fuel pump does not turn off. Just keeps pumping fuel and will not start. Removed remote start switch and hook the 12AWG wire back up to the terminal on the starter solenoid. Turned the key to the run position. I hear the fuel pump cycle for a second with the key in the run position then stops. Tried to turn the engine over and it does, but they same as before. Cranks a few times, then stops. Starts cranking again then stops. Does this bring up any ideas of what may be happening? Has anyone seen this before?

Also, I've read on here about using an inductive timing light to check for spark. I hooked the clamp up to an accessible wire coming off cylinder #2 coil and hooked the power leads up to the battery. Cranked the engine and no light. Is this a good method for checking for spark, or am I wrong?

EDIT:

I just verified I have 11.4VDC at the coil connector on cylinder #2 with the key on, so I'm getting power to that coil anyway.
