Thanks, Richard. It was good talking to you the other day, and I'll definitely let you know next time I'm up in SC. Kai's on a soccer break for a couple of weeks, so it'll probably be a bit.
To answer your question, the antenna does fold in any direction I want it to. I'm looking at ways to secure it when not in use, but I haven't quite figured that piece out yet. On the other hand, I don't really even notice it when it's up anymore.
Today, I neglected my school work and decided to get started on my first welding project. Right after I got the 60, I bought a rear bumper kit with the thought of putting it together myself. I finally got around to getting started on it.
I fought the old bumper carriage bolts for a while until I decided to hit the military exchange and pick up a 10A Craftsman recip saw they had on sale. For anyone with AAFES access, all Craftsman power tools are 20% off. I got the "sawz-all" for $66. A good deal, methinks, but I digress. This morning, the saw made quick work of the bolts, and I had the bumper off in no time. After that, I used the saw to cut off the ends of the rivets holding the old brackets on and beat the brackets off with a ball-peen hammer, some drift punches and cold chisels. Finally, I clamped the new brackets on and marked the holes for drilling.
After burning through a 1/2" DeWalt bit with my hand drill motor, I decided it was time to step it up. I went down to OSH and picked up a Cobalt Irwin bit and chucked it up in the tool I waited a LONG time to get. My old Craftsman drill press!
A little story...I called on a Delta belt/disc sander that I found on C/L and went to pick it up around the corner from my house. While at the fella's place, I noticed he had some old school stuff sitting around with LOTS of dust on them. I told him I wanted the Porter Cable pedestal grinder and Craftsman drill press. He said he wasn't ready to let them go, so I gave him my contact info and drove home with the POS sander I had bought. Over the next month, I called him several times to let him know I was still interested in those old tools, and one day he said "come and make me an offer!" I immediately drove over there and handed him cash deposits on the stuff so I could ensure they would remain mine. I finally got them home, where they sat in the corner until today.
Anyway, here are some pics of my prize boring the holes in my new bumper brackets. I'll post more pics later as I put that Miller welder, I bought last year, to work.
And a couple of the drill press for kicks
