Can I live with a leaky actuator in a factory rear locker?

So I'm starting to turn my attention back to the truck, now that the car is sorted, and doing DD duty without issue...
I have the big rear locker, along with rear axles, compressor, switch, wiring harness... in short, I *think* everything I need to retrofit the factory rear locker into my truck. Only thing I have to farm out is swapping the gears. My truck has 4.90s, and the locker has 4.20-somethings...
Now the problem. The locker that I have has a leaky actuator. It's going to have to be disassembled anyway, to do the gears, right? But according to what I've read, the actuator is no longer available. So do I go ahead and get the gears swapped over, and put up with the compressor being on when the locker is on, or at the very least coming on more often to keep it locked? Or will this even work to keep it locked? Any experience living with a leaky actuator?
I want to have this done for May's Moab trip, but I also want to do it right if I can. If the parts are not available to "do it right", can I live with doing it "wrong"? I know I can't live with an open diff for my second run in Moab. Too much throttle needed!
Thanks all Phil
