Look up MontyMcV's post using the search function. Go to the link at the bottom of his post. Download the factory service manual from that site. Volume I has the engine section, and that will answer your first question. The timing mark on the pulley is a v notch on the back rim.
If the head gasket blew, the truck either had one bad overheat, or a lot of marginal overheating, and I'd have the radiator rodded out at a minimum. Cheap insurance on the new head gasket. I think there's a tsb taking the head bolt torque to 80ftlbs, and I'd do it in 3 stages, 30ftlbs, 60ftlbs, then to final torque.
