I made sliders for my gen I using a 48" piece of .25"x2"x2" angle iron welded right to the cab. It cost me $15 in steel. And yes, it was difficult not to burn through the sheet metal. Though not the prettiest, they work, though they are about 4-5" short. I would say optimal size for gen I is 52-53".
