haha no stock links... for lots of reasons! For one thing there's just no good place to tie the top links in on the frame with similar geometry to the stock setup, and also they seem prone to developing bind pretty bad with exactly stock geometry, I'd hate to see the bind they develop when a small compromise is made..
I haven't seen any S10 with the semi-3-link mess I'm proposing but I've seen it on several XJ's and it looks like a stout, simple, functional arrangement. I like that combination of adjectives.
For links I'm thinking .250 wall 2" DOM, that should be the amount of overkill I'm comfortable with (not likely to fail, but not like 5000 lbs too much either) and the frame end will be an inch or so forward of the T-case output yoke. Adjustable eyes on the top end, rubber on the axle, and an adjustable eye on the Y link (want to be able to fine tune it, not live with a simple geometry problem because it's too much work to make a new link)
There are a couple companies that make ready-made Y-links, that can be used like 3-link... but they seem more expensive than they need to be. I know that steel, links, research, labor, insurance, etc all cost money and I'm willing to pay it when it seems reasonable... but $800 for two frickin Y links without even any bracketry just seems unnecessary.
Oh, and because the axle tabs will be doing slightly more work than they were on the WJ... a little gussetting of the tabs down there too.
Thanks for letting me ramble - btw, anyone have any opinion or thoughts on how close I should let my axle get to the frame? Like at normal ride height is 5" between axle and frame (damped by bump stop) OK?
