Went to get some coilovers this afternoon... Well, I got one out, but the other, the stopping tab thing on the bolt is twisted up an bent. It seems I don't have enough of the right tools...god forbid I don't have a 22mm wrench and I didn't bring a crescent wrench...sigh
Maybe on wednesday....
Ohh and Yu will need to take out the uppers to remove the coilovers
coilover upper bolts-14mm(i think it was) X3 coilover lower bolt-22mm
I was surprised to see that the upper mounting is similar to a car, in that, it just bolt to the fenderwell...I would have thought some doubled up steel sheet wouldn't be strong enough for a 4X4... I guess not. I for one will put it a good brace. They do seem a little long as frank said. And They do go all the way to the top of the fenderwell to a squared spot for the mount. This could pose a problem.
I am kind of thinking a lift kit could easily be pulled of if you can get rid of the torsion bars. It wouldn't take much to make drop mounts and a lower coilover upper mount.
The lower control arms are stamped steel like the Gen1/ gen2. There is a small tab welded on for the bottom mount. The coilover does mount behind the CV axle, I can't remember quite right, but I think Gen1 is in front of the CV axle.
