I don't think the motor's going anytime soon. When I bought it, the head gasket was blown, the plugs looked really bad and even with the original head and a new head gasket, the compression numbers looked terrible:
Quote:
#1 = 170 psi - spark plug very sludgy #2 = 120 psi - spark plug good #3 = 160 psi - spark plug tight/bindy/rusty #4 = 110 psi - spark plug good
I suspected it was a rebuild gone bad with stuck rings, so I gambled a little, soaked the cylinders with penetrating oil and installed a Galant EFI head, a Weber and electric fuel pump.
Today, I pulled the plugs to see what they looked like after 5000 miles. They don't get much better than this and you can see the latest compression numbers written next to the plugs (1-4, L-R):

It is running through about a quart of oil in 3000 miles, but I don't yet know where it's going..... perhaps the valve guides - new valve stem seals were installed when the head was resurfaced...... maybe one was nicked - dunno, but I'm fairly happy with it as-is for now.
