I've run her on plain water for 2 years and around 30,000kms, and as far as I know, the previous owner did too. He didn't do much maintenance and it's taken me 2 years to get her running and looking well again. I haven't started on the interior yet. As for temp, she runs cold even in an ambient 35'c+, crawling along in 1st or 2nd gear, and after standing in traffic and the sun for long periods.
My main problem is that I'm in Phnom Penh and there are very few retail outlets for any kind of decent parts, lubes, or servicing materials. The outlets that there are sell whatever they can find - which isn't much, and are quite often Chinese or Indonesian fake goods. Garages steal and strip parts if you leave the car with them unsupervised (I've lost an original distributer, carburettor, and my airconditioner in the past). I rely on finding spares through the grapevine, paying cash, and not asking where they came from. Getting things delivered is dodgy as the post office isn't much better, and often packages just "don't arrive", or have been slit open with a razor and pilfered through for items of value when you finally get them.
Finding antifreeze here would be a task worthy of Jason and the Argonauts on their way to find the Golden Fleece. I'll certainly try, but am not holding out much hope.
Rad-flush or rad-weld? Hahahahahahahahahahahaha - sorry - is there a recipe for homemade solutions?
