V5MT1: Mitsubishi’s Truck Transmission

The bell housing appears to be slightly different from what I presume is the 'older' 5-speed bell housing to mine. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the other bell housing I had. If anyone has or can get pics of the other 5-speed bell housing(s) and post them that'd be helpful.

There were three differences I found. Face to face they're about 1/4" different in length; the fins (circled below, left) are longer in the 'older?' bell housing and appear to interfere with the pressure plate; and the mounting for the clutch slave cylinder is slightly different (circled below, right). Otherwise the bell housing bolts to my '97 6G72 just peachy.

The transmission to transfer case adapter is different. (nice, new shiny aluminum thing on the right end of the transmission assembly picture, previous post) The transfer case end of the adapter varies from t-case to t-case design. There is also an apparent difference in years of the 'same' adapter - I don't know what the years or the differences are.

From what I've been told and from what I've read it appears that nothing on the front or rear mounting face of the V5MT1 has changed between 1 and 6 so the bell housings should bolt up as well as the transmission to transfer case adapters. As far as I'm concerned this is nothing but 'hear-say' - I don't know positively that that's true. I also don't know if there's a difference in input/output shafts between the 1 and 6.

Anyway, that exhausts what little knowledge I have of our V5MT1 transmissions. Maybe some of the others with a lot more knowledge than I have can shed some light on the differences.
