Didn't early Gen 1's ('84-'86)use the Mopar 3 speed 904 auto? Wouldn't one bolt right up to this trans?

On Hummer H1s, there is no seal at the rear of the transmission, only the 241 t-case has a seal. (Same input seal as a 231) The factory used sealer between the trans and the t-case, and fluid will not exchange between the units (unless the t-case cooler fails). If for some reason you can't find a compatable seal, you could simply use ATF compatable sealer between the trans and T-case and you should be OK.
