If you want to use the long shaft, why not just cut a spacer out of 1/4" (or 3/8) flat stock? since your spacing between two flat surfaces you would only have to ensure that the bolt holes are drilled in the right spot and the hole in the center is large enough for the shaft to pass through. the outside shape would not matter..Seems easy to me. I think this is getting way overthunk If I didnt have the aussie gears I would have tried this one already..but for now its on you guys.
