Re: Did anyone get the np231 t-case to work on gen1 auto?

IT WILL BOLT UP!
That said, you a 23 spline input t-case. Pay attention to the input length. I tested out a long input shaft and it bottomed out. A short would probably work, but if it were me, I would check the length of spline engagement to verify that it is strong enough.

You also need to find the appropriate sized seal for the transmission tail housing. This is not rocket science. It's OD should be the same as the old one, with an ID that matches the OD of the NP231 input shaft. Not hard to do.

Speedometer will need to be sorted out. Not sure what to tell you there. If you convert to an electric speedo, it's pretty easy to deal with.

Shifter will be different. Not hard to do. Novak makes a pretty slick shifter that would probably work well. Or you can get creative and make your own.

Driveshafts will need to be custom made. Again, not rocket science. Install the case, print of the driveshaft spec sheet from Tom Wood's website and crawl under and measure. If it were me doing this to a SWB, I would opt for a SYE to buy a little extra rear driveshaft length.

Here's some crappy cell phone pics to motivate someone to do this.
Forward facing shot. And yes, that's a 2.6 in front of it.

Side shot:

Here's how much shorter the long shaft would need to be to work:

And to give you an idea of t-case length with SYE installed:

I can not believe someone has not done this yet.
